Farmer: Settlers uproot trees in Beit Ummar

Hamad Sleiby surveys damage to trees on his land.

HEBRON (Ma’an) -- Settlers from the illegal Bat Ayin settlement, northwest of Hebron, have uprooted olive, plum and grape trees belonging to a local farmer in Beit Ummar.

Hamad Abdul Hamid Sleiby told Ma'an that settlers attacked his land in Beit Ummar for the fifth time on Tuesday.

The olive trees were planted in the 1950's, he said, and the land belongs to him and his brothers.

The family constantly complain to Israeli police about settler attacks but an investigation has yet to be opened, Sleiby said.

Security cameras around the settlement only monitor Palestinians and not the settlers, he added.

An Israeli army spokesman said he was unaware of the incident.
