LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – Former Detroit Lions quarterback Joey Harrington was discharged on Wednesday from a Portland hospital, where he was treated following a bike accident over the weekend.
Harrington, 33, suffered a broken clavicle and rib and punctured lung on Sunday evening when he was struck from behind by a sport utility vehicle while riding through Portland.
He was admitted to Oregon Health and Science University Hospital and was in intensive care before his condition was upgraded to fair.
The former athlete was discharged on Wednesday, hospital spokeswoman Tamara Hargen-Bradley told Reuters.
Harrington was wearing a helmet during the bicycle ride, which his father said likely prevented more serious injury.
Harrington, now a sports broadcaster, was a standout for the Oregon Ducks, leading them to a Fiesta Bowl victory in 2002.
The driver of the SUV, Derek Johnston, 26, cooperated with police and was cited for following too closely.
