Anne Hathaway Gets Romantic at the "One Day" Premiere (Fashion Wire Daily)

New York – Movie star, Oscar host and fashionista Anne Hathaway didn't disappoint her New York fans on Monday, Aug. 8, as she hit the red carpet for the premiere celebration of her new romance film "One Day." Decked out in an Alexander McQueen cocktail dress with a glittery golden bodice, the actress brought the glamour she's become known for, especially since that famous Oscar night last year when she changed outfits eight times in the course of the show.

So she was positively demure at the "One Day" premiere held at the Lincoln Center Loews Theaters, for she only changed her clothes once. The gorgeous brunette strolled the red carpet at the theater with co-stars Jim Sturgess and Patricia Clarkson as they promoted the Lone Scherfig-directed drama; afterwards, as the cast and executives from Focus Features reassembled for a post-party, Hathaway chose a floaty, bubble-skirted cream number.

The romance follows a couple from their first intimate encounter on their college graduation day through the ensuing years, with the audience only seeing the pair on that same day of the year. It's something of a rocky ride for the characters, but that's not what Hathaway has been experiencing in her own romantic life. Escorted to the premiere by Adam Shulman, her boyfriend of three years, Hathaway glowed with contentment, reflecting comments she made back in November 2010 while chatting with reporters about her last romantic flick, "Love and Other Drugs."

"I think that love is everything. I think that most people want love. I think the journey is sometimes really rocky to find it and it's an exploration and an adventure always and that's one of the most wonderful parts of being alive and one of the worst parts of being alive when it doesn't go well," she said. " It's an incredibly intoxicating feeling, that initial rush and then as you spend more time in it and it deepens it becomes something else entirely. It becomes all the epic things that the world is made up of, or at least that's been my experience."

There was plenty of love in the air at the "One Day" premiere, as Kevin Jonas snuggled with his wife of two years, Danielle Deleasa. Others on hand to check out the new film were actress Michael Michele, Imogen Potts and Beth Ostrosky, model Coco Rocha, and fashion designer Rachel Roy.

Kate Middleton repeats on Vanity Fair fashion list (AP)

NEW YORK – Kate Middleton finds herself in the company of Michelle Obama and Carla Bruni-Sarkozy on top of Vanity Fair's International Best Dressed List.

The Duchess of Cambridge's mix of high and low looks — designer fashion one day, jeans the next — and a "whirlwind year of fashion successes" earned her a spot on the 72-year-old list, according to a statement from the magazine. She had appeared once before, in 2008.

Other royals who caught the eye of the designers, retailers, editors, socialites, photographers and entertainers who submit ballots include Princess Alexandra of Greece, Princess Charlene of Monaco, Italian Countess Matilde Borromeo and Sheikha Moza Bint Nasser of Qatar.

Mrs. Obama, a four-year veteran of the list, was named for the first time as part of a best-dressed couple, although President Barack Obama had been named on his own to the list once in 2009. Bruni-Sarkozy is another repeat recipient.

First-timers include Justin Timberlake, Colin Firth, Armie Hammer and Christine Lagarde, chief of the International Monetary Fund. Carey Mulligan and Tilda Swinton have each made it twice. News anchor Brian Williams was named to the hall of fame.

Fashion professionals get their own category on the list; model Stella Tennant, photographer Mario Testino, Burberry designer Christopher Bailey and couple Lauren Bush and David Lauren were among those to make the cut.

Lady Gaga, Janelle Monae, the King of Bhutan and couple Vanessa Paradis and Johnny Depp fill the "fashion originals" group.

Vanity Fair inherited the list, considered one of the most influential in the fashion world, from the late fashion publicist Eleanor Lambert in 2004.

10 Best Dressed Guests at The Royal Wedding

We're so not done swooning over Kate Middleton's wedding dress yet, but we're going to turn our attention to the fabulous royal guests for a few minutes! Want to see who wore what? Check out our picks for the 10 best dressed...

Prince William's royal cousins--Beatrice and Eugenie--totally turned heads in their Phillip Treacy hats. Eugenie's electric blue number is by Vivienne Westwood, while Beatrice went with a detailed Valentino number.

The second most-watched couple of the day? Posh & Becks, but of course! Victoria Beckham wowed us with her version of maternity wear--a dress of her own design, paired with a Phillip Treacy topper and sky-high Christian Louboutin heels--while her hot husband showed his way with a Windsor knot.

You'd probably never see a maid of honor wearing white in the U.S., but Pippa Middleton pulled off this cowl-neck Alexander McQueen number with perfect grace. It shows off her gorgeous figure, but there's not a chance she could have upstaged her glowing sister on this day.

Queen Elizabeth II went with one of this season's hottest colors--bright, bold yellow!--in a perfectly tailored suit by Angela Kelly.

Who knew Joss Stone had such a sense of refinement? Her monochrome coral ensemble was perfectly chic--especially with that fabulous hat!

Speaking of fabulous hats...Princess Anne's daughter, Zara Phillips, gets our vote for the day's chicest! Hers is also by Phillip Treacy, and it gives the bride-to-be an air of total elegance.

Talk about royal blue! Tara Palmer Tomkinson, a British It-girl and TV personality, was no wallflower at this event. Her off-the-shoulder electric dress was even more wow-worthy thanks to a matching hat, gloves, clutch, and heels.

The prime minister's wife, Samantha Cameron, went traditionally British in a teal pleated sheath dress by Burberry. An Erdem statement necklace, orange scarf, and nude shoes completed the look.

It's been a fairly low-key year for the fashion industry. Tail hems, pastels and ballet-inspired outfits are big, and more off-beat models with gap-teeth and tattoos are in demand.
No big news so far.
But just because there haven't been any surprises and scandals yet doesn't mean that there isn't a wave of potential trends coming at you. If the fashion police are real, we've got 10 crimes to report.
Coming up are 10 of this year's fashion trends that we wouldn't be caught dead in. From bunny ears to fabrics only surfers should wear, make sure none of these items end up in your closet.

10: Loungerie
Lingerie is hard enough to swing in the bedroom, but when designers start using lingerie-inspired outfits as casualwear, things get impossible. The only people who can get away with wearing underwear on the outside are superheroes and toddlers.

Don't get us wrong, though. We love the lacy mood that the spring and summer shows have been bringing to the table. Lace has a flirty refinement that isn't overly girly, which has been sorely lacking in a year otherwise populated by over-the-top biker outfits and childish rompers. We'd just rather keep the lace for daywear and save lingerie for the bedroom.

9: Jumpsuits and Rompers
We don't see the appeal of one-piece outfits.
Playsuits, jumpsuits and rompers are one-piece ensembles that the fashion world has killed and resurrected more times than Jason Voorhees has come back to life. And guess what's back for 2011?

While jumpsuits supposedly flatter certain body types, we have yet to see anyone pull them off. As far as we're concerned, they combine all the excitement of a pair of overalls with all the practicality of a hazmat suit. Why wouldn't we want to wear a one-piece sack that we have to take off to go to the bathroom? Oh wait, we remember. All those reasons we just said.

8: Neoprene
Anyone who's ever worn a wetsuit knows how flatteringly neoprene shapes you. It's tight and strong, it evens out bulges, and it's at least half the reason why surfers look so fantastic. But there are just two problems with neoprene: It's incredibly hot to wear, and there's literally nothing that skintight neoprene complements besides skintight neoprene.

Since it was designed as an insulator, any part of you that's under neoprene is going to be basted in sweat. And because it sucks you in, neoprene plus any other fabric basically makes normal humans like us look like two different people sewn together. One half is svelte and athletic, the other is really into cinnamon rolls. Hats off to those who can rock it, though.

7: Belt Purses
We feel a little bad about this one, because some of the belt purses we've seen are actually fantastic. There shouldn't be anything wrong with a sleek little clutch affixed to the hip -- and combining a clutch with a belt has that chocolate and peanut butter synchronicity to it.

Unfortunately, we still remember fanny packs. Shutter shades may have been able to make the jump from nerdy '80s reject to crazy hot fashion item (thanks, Kanye!), but it'll be a long time before a belt with a pouch on it can be associated with anything other than dumpy middle-aged tourists at Disney World.

6: Fruit Prints
Keep the garish fruit prints on Gramma's couch.
There's attention-grabbing, and then there's visually assaulting.

This year's fruit prints are strictly the latter, with all the color of an animal print and none of the class. It's a no-win situation. You can either go for density with an ocean of writhing bananas, or a slightly more tasteful citrus and floral print that will make people think you made it out of a tablecloth.

While fruit can be pleasant to look at, the statement it makes on printed fabric ends up being less "pastoral elegance" and more "breakfast buffet."

5: Fruit and Flower Hats for Men
Please don't make your man wear this hat.
Hats are one of the fashion accessories that are routinely touted as being in for men.

Partly it's because hats are undeniably cool, but it's also because what other headwear are you going to have for men? Tiaras? Flowers? Fruit?

Yes, apparently all of the above.

It's been an unusually floral spring for men, and designers trying to push the bounds of masculine headwear have been tilting at some pretty fruit-covered windmills. That flowery elfin vibe we've been seeing on the catwalk clearly needs to remain there. It's one of those things that's going to look great in the spreads but completely outlandish anywhere else.

Embrace at your own peril.

4: Animal Print Bomber Jackets
Fashion is a fickle beast. You never know what's going to be hot one year and cold the next. And though today's iron-clad fashion don'ts may be tomorrow's big-ticket item, animal print anything is a look that's hard to wear well. And while we have to admit that the fashion world is running hot on animal prints at the moment, getting the point across with a bunchy, shapeless bomber jacket just screams cringe-worthy. Who cares if python is the new cheetah? Oh well, at least they're better than real fur.

3: The Overly Comfortable Trend
Leggings are still lurching down the runway.
It's great when a pair of pants both looks great and feels comfortable, but we don't like where some of this is heading.

Jeggings and pajama jeans, we're looking in your direction.

Though they've been around since 2009 or so, fake elastic jeans, with their unstoppable combination of colossally bad taste and endless popularity in the face of widespread ridicule, have earned them a spot on our list. These pants have the marks of tomorrow's trash bins all over them -- cheap, fake, synthetic and ubiquitous. While we wish we could say that they've jumped the shark already, they're certain to be highly visible during 2011.

2: Bunny Ears
Ooh, bunny ears. Why we won't be caught in them should be obvious. Of course, they're not meant to be actual bunny ears -- the designs we've seen look more like a pairs of studded silk radar dishes. Unique and attention-getting they may be, but also goofily impractical and lacking in any substance. This is not fashion, this is a costume. Pass!

1: Biker Chic

This year, we're afraid you're going to have to choose between two themes on opposite ends of the spectrum. In one corner, there's ballerina chic: wrap dresses, draping skirts, ballet flats and tufty tutus. In the other, there's biker chic: buckles, studs and black leather everything. Yes, the biker look can be done well -- just see Kate Moss on the cover of LOVE magazine for proof.

But while the biker look may have some legs (wrapped up in thigh-high boots, no less), it doesn't have the versatility of this year's ballet-inspired designs.

Our prediction? Frou-frou beats vroom-vroom.

It’s only November, but luckily for us, the fine folks at ACE and ACSM have put together their respective Top 10 Fitness Trends for 2011 lists.

So, if you’re interested in knowing what programs your local health club will be pushing onto you come January, read on.

The ACE Top Ten List includes:

1. Economic Upswing: In general, consumers are preparing for an economic upswing that is motivating more individuals to resume their personal training and fitness regimens.

2. Added-Value Wellness Services: More gyms and clubs will begin to hire other allied healthcare professionals to serve the expanding needs of their health-conscious members – nutrition, physical therapy, etc.

3. Stress Reduction Through Fitness: With the increased knowledge of how stress negatively affects the body, gyms and clubs will start offering wellness programs so their members develop effective strategies for managing their stress levels.

4. Technology Becomes a Support Resource: Although there have been a great deal of technological advances within the fitness industry, online interactive classes will not proliferate in 2011, demonstrating the desire for human contact with fitness professionals. However, social networks like Facebook, Twitter and YouTube will become increasingly popular serving as an online motivational support system to complement personal training sessions.

5. Buddy System: Healthy support groups will become a more popular offering in gyms due to peer encouragement and increased potential for success. This thinking also holds true for older adults, with the majority of them seeking group classes to stay fit.

6. Most Popular Workouts: Boot camp-style workouts will remain popular among consumers based on its intensity and efficiency. Zumba classes will continue to offer a fun alternative to more traditional dance classes, while TRX Suspension training and interval training both offer intense workout experiences with impressive results.

7. Small-Group Workouts: Small-group sessions remain a very popular way for individuals to exercise. Whether through personal training, strength training, cardiovascular exercise, or sessions for older adults, small-group sessions will be “in” as a way to socialize, cut costs and stay motivated.

8. Youth-Based Fitness: Expect to see more youth-focused classes and clients popping up in gyms thanks to the national attention and focus on childhood obesity. Schools and fitness centers will also incorporate more exercise curriculum for the youth population.

9. Corporate Wellness: Whether it is through the hiring of in-house personal trainers or discounts and incentives offered to employees that join a health club, corporate wellness programs will emerge country-wide to help encourage healthy lifestyles among workers, especially time-crunched consumers.

10. Elevated Professionalism: There will be a significant increase in the hiring of personal trainers that hold a NCCA-accredited certification at gyms and fitness centers. With consumers becoming more educated and fitness-savvy, they understand the need for fitness professionals to have the proper education and high-quality certifications…like an ACE certification perhaps?

The ACSM Top Ten List includes:

1. Educated and experienced fitness professionals. see #10 on the Ace list

2. Fitness programs for older adults. As the baby boom generation ages into retirement, some of these people have more discretionary money than their younger counterparts. Therefore, many health and fitness professionals are taking the time to create age-appropriate fitness programs to keep older adults healthy and active.

3. Strength training. Strength training remains a central emphasis for many health clubs. Incorporating strength training is an essential part of a complete physical activity program for all physical activity levels and genders.

4. Children and obesity. With childhood obesity growing at an alarming rate, health and fitness professionals see the epidemic as an opportunity to create programs tailored to overweight and obese children. Solving the problem of childhood obesity will have an impact on the health care industry today and for years to come.

5. Personal training. More and more students are majoring in kinesiology, which indicates that students are preparing themselves for careers in allied health fields such as personal training. Education, training and proper credentialing for personal trainers have become increasingly important to the health and fitness facilities that employ them.

6. Core training. Distinct from strength training, core training specifically emphasizes conditioning of the middle-body muscles, including the pelvis, lower back, hips and abdomen—all of which provide needed support for the spine.

7. Exercise and weight loss. In addition to nutrition, exercise is a key component of a proper weight loss program. Health and fitness professionals who provide weight loss programs are increasingly incorporating regular exercise and caloric restriction for better weight control in their clients.

8. Boot camp. Boot camp is a high-intensity structured activity program modeled after military style training and led by an instructor. Boot camp incorporates cardiovascular, strength, endurance and flexibility drills in both indoor and outdoor settings.

9. Functional fitness. This is a trend toward using strength training to improve balance and ease of daily living. Functional fitness and special fitness programs for older adults are closely related.

10. Physician referrals. Physician referrals, a key component of the Exercise is Medicine initiative, partner medical professionals with heath and fitness professionals to seamlessly integrate exercise into their patients’ lives.

Well, I don’t know about you, but these lists seem to be focused on commercial health club activities and personal training. It’s almost as if ACE and ACSM are using these lists as a promotional tool to encourage more people to sign up for their courses to become personal trainers.

Damn, I have become cynical in my old age.

As the name suggests, it’s designed only to celebrate Oprah’s 25th year. It’s diamond-encrusted – 58 hand-set diamonds in all – and tells time in two time zones.
